My anecdotal comic book shop conversation tonight...

Posted by: TwoMisfits (a.k.a del_SCA_TwoMisfits) on Aug 06, 21:05 in response to second gary's post RTH via BOT suggests SUICD Saturday "mid 30s...

Went it and asked the manager and 2 employees (all 3 18-35, 2 female and 1 male) how Suicide Squad was...they said they hadn't seen it and weren't planning to b/c their friends said it was terrible.  They announce this loudly to a store with 20-25 other patrons inside who have been known to chime in on thoughts on comics, movies, etc...and no one spoke up for the movie.  No one said "wow, it's actually good, you should see it."  So, like BvS, I'm gonna bet (not that I didn't before, but now I feel much better about it) that the legs are gonna be awful.

YMMV on this info:)...

RTH via BOT suggests SUICD Saturday "mid 30s maybe." second gary Aug 06, 16:30

If that holds, what, $120-125M OW? {nm} ~JPV~ Aug 06, 16:40

SUPE2 Saturday was -38% below Friday, and Sunday a further -33%. If SUICD has a 35M Saturday, and it follows SUPE2, then. . . second gary Aug 06, 16:47

Yeah I'm thinking around there as well MattW Aug 06, 17:17

I wonder if T-mobile / Walmart-style promotions only show up when a tentpole film is sensed, by insiders, to be in deep trouble? second gary Aug 06, 17:25

Yes--specifically, deals where they give away free movie tickets in hopes SOMEONE SOMEWHERE will like it, and get paying customer(s) by WOM. {nm} chosenone2oo5 Aug 06, 20:31

I question the reliability of an unsourced forum post, but the most recent comment in that thread for Saturday is "Looking at 67-70 atm" {nm} hilarycondon Aug 06, 17:54

Rth is a verified insider with access to numbers. I don't know the person who posted the other take. {nm} RogerMore Aug 06, 18:00

The other post is by a dc fanboy with no inside info who was predicting over 200 going into the weekend. I've been watching that thread {nm} MattW Aug 06, 18:03

Thanks (200 pages with gif avatars is too much for me to follow) {nm} RogerMore Aug 06, 18:24

I have yet to believe any DC Comics film can deliver $200M+ after "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" screwed the goodwill pooch. ARR-ARR!! {nm} chosenone2oo5 Aug 06, 20:32

The post you are quoting is from 'Excel" ... you need to do more research... RazorHawk Aug 06, 18:16

So if this has, my take is that the comic book fans loved it, but no one else showed up {nm} tealfan Aug 06, 18:02

*so if this holds {nm} tealfan Aug 06, 18:03

The reviews are definitely damning, but that high of a drop from Friday to Saturday feels unlikely. hilarycondon Aug 06, 18:10

Why does it feel unlikely? True Friday is 44.6. WOM can definitely affect the Saturday after the opening Friday. {nm} Jay_Beezy Aug 06, 18:16

Agree with Jay - many of us said 6x multiplier plus free tickets...that's right in line with our expectations... {nm} TwoMisfits Aug 06, 18:26

Also, a misleading part of marketing. *SPOILERS* Jay_Beezy Aug 06, 19:18

I feel bad for Sinister Six {nm} RazorHawk Aug 06, 18:18

Just back and the theater was packed {nm} tradermark Aug 06, 18:07

Well, one would still need a lot of packed theatres to have a 35M Saturday. :) {nm} second gary Aug 06, 18:22

What second gary said. On a different note - What did you think of the movie? {nm} shadowking Aug 06, 18:25
