I loved Sully. It moved me An emotional roller coaster. And Tom Hanks is a complete master of his craft. Very strong film.
See it in IMAX if you can. It's great because it's in 2D. It looks great.
Hanks and Eckhart are great in the film. It's an incredible story. You'd' think this movie would be all about the visuals, and even though it's fascinating to look at, in the end Hanks brings emotional levels to his character that you are not prepared for, and he centers this film emotionally for the audience. He is superb; with each role he strengthens the argument that he is a true American treasure.
The many different shots of the aircraft in an unusual environment; low to the ground, surrounded by the Manhattan skyline, sitting in the Hudson River, all of these are visually striking images, and Clint Eastwood expertly takes advantage of these moments That, combined with Hanks and Eckhart giving striking performances, will result in a film that many Americans will anticipate for one reason, and will leave the theater thrilled by an impact they didn't see coming.
By the way; I saw this in the huge IMAX at the Irvine Spectrum, along with about another 10 people, the noon showing today. Clearly the NFL is in charge today lol.
