hate to pile on, but it's felt like the website has been dying a slow death for awhile now...

Posted by: lobogotti on Dec 27, 07:29 in response to Buy BONDS 26's post How I feel about the new rulles

Most don't like change, but HSX has had a couple changes that didn't go over too well.  It all started when Orange was released.  A huge following of traders just abandoned the website in droves, never to return.

Then changing the halt from Friday to Saturday was a big deal.  Many people hated that.

Now the halt and adjust have been completely removed and I think it fair to say people feel like the website has lost it's identity.

What is HSX today?  As far I can tell, HSX is a great website to see what films will be released as far in advance as any website details.  You're going to get more movie news on HSX than any other website I can see, because every source is pulled into these boards and can easily be referenced back.  Doesn;t really feel like a game, because it's unwinnable for 99.9%.

The problem HSX now faces is it's losing interest from what I can tell.  There are less and less contributors.  Old traders are going radio silent more and more.  I think some of it has to do with life and some of it has to do with the changes/current environment.

Personally, I quit playing years ago because in order to be competitive, you really have to dedicate more free time than I had.  So rather than chase, I gave up and participated in posting about current happenings, OWs and movie talk in general.  In other words, I still value my online friends here.

I don't want to speak on the website traffic and usage from current and new trader signups, but if the boards are an indicator, then the website is losing interest as a whole.

You can look back at Who Saw What Last Week and see that in that past several there have been as few as 10 replies from traders talking about what they say to a max of 15.  Could be the holidays, but doesn't feel like it to me.

Also, it doesn't help that the website has been the same format for nearly 8 years.  On top of that there have been a lot of login issues, server timeouts, blackouts and trading unavailable for hours at a time; much more than should be happening.  This leads me to believe that HSX doesn't have a lot of funding or resources.  In fact, there are days I come to the website wondering if it will still be around because of these issues.

There has always been an issue of scaring off new traders from posting, because of the way you post something.  It's hard to get around that, but the way it is handled at times isn't the most welcoming.  No offense to DMac, but as the moderator, a lot of times he's too involved in dialogue and responses can come off personal.  These are other reasons that contribute to traders having less involvement.

Then there's the draining of the swamp, or the lack thereof.  It would be good to impose time-out, semi or permananent bans from trading and/or the boards to repeat offenders, but instead they're just given free reign to continue.  Trolls just troll and hurl insults, which also keeps people from posting.

I think HSX has to become something more to be great again.  I recommend a new format (website), with a more modern message board and better social features for traders to connect.  Since halt has been done away with.. weekly, monthly, quarterly, seasonal and yearly contests (for real prizes) would help generate new interest.

HSX has the opportunity to be something great, but it's moving in the opposite direction.  If not for some of the old veterans who hang around and contribute, I'd leave too.  I hope management is reading the feedback from traders here and seeing that something has to give to get it back to good.

just my two cents.

Frame 1:53 is from Saturday, Janaury 20, 1968. And yes, Sundays will never be the Same. {nm} Roman Polanski Dec 26, 14:23

Maybe we can get it changed back, if enough people agree {nm} HSXiphos Dec 27, 05:03

All it's going to take is one person to agree, and I don't get the impression any arguement is going to change his mind {nm} ßionicℳoron™ Dec 27, 06:12

Adjusts have been pointless since they moved the halt time till Saturday nights. They should go back to halting on Friday afternoons. {nm} diamondman56 Dec 27, 05:51

This game is now boring. Friday adjust were great. Both changes (to saturday halt and this one) sucks {nm} Filmstardust Dec 27, 06:42

The Weds/Friday halts were fun, BUT back in the days when there were few if any box office $ predictions. Sat. halts never made sense to me. {nm} pennystocks2 Dec 27, 09:56

Plus, it seems that Movies at the theaters are dying a slow death, and that will take HSX down too. Sure not the same as the early 2000's. {nm} pennystocks2 Dec 27, 10:05

maybe it kinda seems that way, but 2016 is actually going to be the biggest $ year ever {nm} islander Dec 27, 10:12

Hopefully we'll be around to see what happens to theaters in the next 10 years or so... {nm} pennystocks2 Dec 27, 15:45

I just hope/wish "they" notice the suckness and bring the Halt back to Friday or earlier, which would be even better {nm} Filmstardust Dec 27, 17:45

A very well-written post, Lobo. I agree with everything you said and hope management will take your suggestions under advisement. RollingThunder Dec 27, 08:01

There was a social function to the halt and the adjust similar to the work lobo's contests (and contest idea) have done. second gary Dec 27, 08:28

The most direct comment I can make is that I don't even come to the site every day any more and it doesn't bother me. initech Dec 27, 10:00

it seems to me that what people want out of HSX and what HSX needs out of HSX are two different things Moviesnob Dec 27, 12:50

I'm assuming that many traders would like to start that discussion. {nm} lobogotti Dec 27, 13:03

then they should start that. Lots of smart people here so I am hopeful they can come up with ways that give HSX what it needs & keeps Moviesnob Dec 27, 13:37

I understand that there is a fine line drawn here by Cantor Fitzgerald. Antibody is the messenger. mrbinns Dec 27, 09:15
