As I listed in my lengthy article, "Mission: Impossible" is a consistent anomaly in Cruise's otherwise slipping star power. (cont.)-->

Quoting myself: "Tom Cruise's star power is waning (look to 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' and its $58M TOTAL domestic run). His last big hit was 'War of the Worlds (2005),' not including his always-reliable 'Mission: Impossible' sequels, or his tiny part in 'Tropic Thunder.' 'War of the Worlds' was 12 years ago! Everything else he's starred in has made less than $100M domestic."

And to be fair, I haven't been disappointed with a "Mission: Impossible" film in 11 years. The quality is what keeps those tickets getting bought, and the audience knows it.

Making TCRUI indestrucible just kills any suspense. Nothing's gonna hurt, why is he running? Antibody May 18, 12:56

There are fates worse than death... O_O duh? {nm} chosenone2oo5 May 18, 12:57

Work(ed) for Wolverine and Edge of Tomorrow! Doesn't mean he doesn't go through the torment of dying each time. {nm} Panicky Universal Exec May 18, 13:06

At least the latest TV spots don't make it look like a Mission Impossible movie. (Or at least less so.) {nm} DTravel May 18, 17:10

I think THR is over-exaggerating. Low-to-mid-$30M range. Buzz bubble burst last month on this zit. chosenone2oo5 May 18, 13:18

Hard to say EOT initial tracking was 30 and it did 28, but MISS5 was 40 and it did 56. Mummy has a brand which EOT didn't. Panicky Universal Exec May 18, 13:27

Universal is marketing Mummy as a Mission Impossible film. People are dubbing it Mummy Protocol. {nm} Antibody May 18, 13:54

So a horror (potential) franchise is already a joke: can Universal not see how royally this marketing is screwed up? chosenone2oo5 May 18, 14:13

What if they are going to action franchises with horror elements rather than vice versa? {nm} BSmurf May 18, 14:46

Then that is an action franchise! Obviously! Horror movies should be horrific! This = not a horror movie, so horror fans shouldn't see it! {nm} chosenone2oo5 May 25, 14:45

Reviews are overwhelmingly negative so far, that will hurt casual viewing. {nm} Shirtavius Jun 08, 10:59
