You just make customized searches and monitor the number of tweets within a given period of time..

I used Twitter to decide to go long on The Last Song. I should've used it to short Clash of the Titans as well, as that one never trended, and a movie that big should've. (It also didn't have too awesome a tweet-rate in general.. )
