and doom of lower than desired box office is due to the product? Not everyone likes CNOLA, in fact I hated Inception (loved Dark Knight and thought Prestige was wonderful). Reviews were not great and the aggregator sites are in the 70's. Not exactly must see endorsements.
I would be highly likely to go see any number of other movies, say WOND2 in IMAX if it opens in October, DNILE, TMVTM, FREEG, CTAM2, etc. It seems to me that the current lack of product is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. No one will go to the movies because there is nothing to see because no one will go to the movies because there is nothing to see because no one will go to the movies.....
Perfect case in point, my wife and her friend went on a girl's day Sunday. Lunch, shopping and a movie. Except there were no movies that they wanted to see. So, does that get interpreted as 'no one wants to go' even though it had nothing to do with COVID, capacity restrictions, etc?
Full disclosure, I work for a corporation that owns a studio, SVOD and PVOD. This has tremendous future impact to my job and thousands of others. I believe we are at a crossroads. If Hollywood rolls up the carpets until 2021 and/or the studios figure out the golden price point for mass adoption of PVOD before theaters are back up and running, I don't see a real return to cinema and that would be a tragedy.
I'm interested in other's opinions here.
