D+ Day is likely in early September I'd expect them to hold it to then ala THOR4. (July 8th - September 8th in that example)

Yes its a cliche. Pt is the cliche isn't working (as well) for most movies now (vs recent past) so why did it for the few (incl TG2) it did?
