Red Riding Hood
Showtime: 1:05 p.m.
Venue: Edwards San Marcos 18 (North San Diego County, Calif.)
18 butts / 275 seats (7% full)
Snacks: Water... Does that count so long as it came from the filthy drinking fountain, meaning probably more particulates of stuff than are in soda syrup?
Trailers: Prom, Sucker Punch, Something Borrowed, Bad Teacher (funny!), and probably a few others I wasn't there in time for.
Box Office Potential: That number is pretty darn marginal, given this location is usually pretty solid for this type of pic and does relatively well with first shows on Friday. Depends on how much of the audience is 14-year-old girls, I guess. Easy A was doing considerably better by this point in the day, but its nighttime attendance was also something of a disappointment, so I guess we'll see. Wouldn't hold my breath for this one exceeding mid-teens, though.
My Take: As a Hardwicke and a Seyfried fan, it pains me that this is every bit as bad as the reviews say... None of the campy energy of the first Twilight is there, and that's really the core flaw -- it's so mopey and eye-rollingly serious, with no sense of style or thematic richness... We don't care who the wolf is and there's nothing else to keep us entertained as it happens, either. Yawn.
Full review to be posted on my site tonight -- I'll really be ramping up content soon, as I'm on spring break, which will once again include weekly box-office predictions starting next Thurday.
