Is there really that much trading of openers once numbers come out?

I figure people would then reverse the stocks if they're holding them wrong and just hold them until halt... if you really want more trading then go back to commission free on weekends but I really don't see how keeping openers unhalted creates that much additional trading... essentially that just gives reset traders to drive those openers closer to their adjust price and when we get to the summer with stocks in the $150-300 range, it's just as easy to just dump them when they're close to their adjust price since people will want to use the money elsewhere.

I scream, you scream, everybody's posting bout 4scream. Any thoughts on Rio ? ( mine inside ) JMT-NL Apr 13, 09:08

As detailed in xiayun's post below, its BOM poll and Twitter activity is pointing to $40-45m. Anything above that would be a surprise. Rolling_Thunder Apr 13, 09:49

being new here i think 6pm on sat is crazy late. winstonman78 Apr 13, 10:17

even an early saturday cutoff would make more sense than a cutoff when 3/4ths of the weekend is over. {nm} winstonman78 Apr 13, 10:18

as much as I respect Xiayuns predictions, they are only predictions. Both Scream and Rio will do better. And next year... JMT-NL Apr 13, 10:20

but the real question is do you still think Fast5 is opening less thna 50? :) {nm} lobogotti Apr 13, 10:29

Haha... Yes 40-45 {nm} JMT-NL Apr 13, 10:50

Hold that question until next week, I'm all out of money. :) {nm} PVL Admin Apr 13, 11:19

xiayun runs hot and cold. He was trippin' on ADJBU. But he showed a real acumen with his LMTLS prediction. {nm} lhayes37 Apr 13, 10:34

...with an accuracy rate ONLY beat by MTC, and followed very closely by BO.com. Those have been the top 3 for a while now. {nm} PVL Admin Apr 13, 11:09

Credit where credit is due, is all I'm saying. His accuracy clearly demonstrate the insightfulness of the considerations in his analyses. {nm} PVL Admin Apr 13, 11:14

If comparing accuracy, you need to consider timing. CS puts out his numbers on Tues whereas Xiayun is often on Friday. Respect both but GMov Apr 13, 18:38

First rule of box office predictions - no one really knows anything. Second rule is some people still know more than others. {nm} RogerMore Apr 13, 10:48

With all of this advance discussion of openers, I see no reason why halt shouldn't go back to 1PM on Friday. {nm} secretstalker Apr 13, 09:55

agreed. I wonder how much difference they are seeing with the changes having been in effect a few months now? {nm} lobogotti Apr 13, 09:58

agreed. {nm} JMT-NL Apr 13, 10:07

And O.W. halts should be 1 PM thursday ! Also, D-mac, if saturdaytrading is the worry, there are other solutions... JMT-NL Apr 13, 11:12

The reason the halt was pushed back was to capture the additional trading from Fri to Sat. {nm} Antibody Apr 13, 10:24

how is that going? you guys seeing better results? any stats? {nm} lobogotti Apr 13, 10:28

Is there really that much trading of openers once numbers come out? secretstalker Apr 13, 10:31

I've been known to trade when Nikki's first numbers come out, then flip when the HSX price has caught up to Nikki's prediction... RogerMore Apr 13, 10:45

It has regularly caught up and surpassed the projection for the weekend... secretstalker Apr 13, 13:11

Changing the halt has changed the emphasis of the game - it's now more about trading and less about predicting box office. cp6ap Apr 13, 10:41

I would welcome a return to the old rules. Man's game ****es. {nm} lhayes37 Apr 13, 10:44

agreed. {nm} GMov Apr 13, 18:40
