Monarch (Fox)
Monarch had a special premiere on a Sunday, but it's regular slot is Tuesdays (9PM). The premiere's 4.03 million viewers and 0.9 rating was average for Sunday. It immediately had an encore after the first episode, and that brought in 1.6 million viewers and a 0.24 rating share. They re-aired the pilot a couple more times leading up to the second episode, all with below average ratings (roughly 1m viewers and <0.2 rating).
Second episode went up against
FBI: International (9PM) and
The Voice (Tuesday 8PM, special 2-hour). This was the first episode of
Monarch in its regular Tuesday (9PM) timeslot. Last year this timeslot was held by
Our Kind of People, which averaged 1.4 million viewers, but had better demos than
Monarch. Both
Monarch and
Our Kind of People have
The Resident for a lead-in, which averaged ~3 million viewers last season, but has started off with 2.7 million and worse demos this year. So
Monarch is retaining a larger share of viewers. (OKOPEP had 12 episodes and wasn't renewed).
The third episode went head-to-head against the second season premiere of
La Brea, which has
The Voice (Tuesday, 1-hour) for a lead-in.
La Brea had decent demos last year and averaged about 5 million viewers. This season's premiere had 4 million viewers and 0.49 rating. This had essentially no impact on
Monarch, which had a slight improvement over last week. It's lead-in,
The Resident, dropped to 2.65 million viewers this week, so again
Monarch is improving on retention.
It'd be a shame for Fox to wait to shake things up, since they'd be wasting Susan Sarandon. They'd be smart to immediately move
Monarch into a different slot. Either with
911 as a lead-in on Monday or
The Masked Singer on Wednesday. But even swapping timeslots with
The Resident might be a good move. I doubt Fox does any of these.
The ideal Fox lineup with these shows is probably Monday:
911 and
The Resident, Tuesday:
Monarch and
The Cleaning Lady.
