I wanted to give the new design time. Try it out, give the bugs a chance to be worked out...
I didn't post this to complain, this is just my estimation of the new site. Please keep in mind that I am not a web developer, but I do use the web and know a little about developing. That being said, here's my opinion...
I've read on this forum that the old site was built on 10 year old tech. I thought it used Java servlets, JSP's and XML. Those all seem to be current to me. Android runs Java apps, as do all OS's. I would rather you say it was built on well established technology, and not imply that it was "outdated". I know that you can do anything in jsp's that you can do with php, and asp's. Personally, I don't like python, or php. But that's me. (BTW, I looked it up, PHP succeeds an older product, named PHP/FI. PHP/FI was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995. And J2EE beta software was released in 1999.)
Since we have a new "modern" site, how about implementing some modern things: a REAL forum/BB that is searchable; remembering preferences; customizing layout (see csszengarden.com AND the-reincarnation.com); custom RSS feeds.
Last... Why are you pushing Firefox?!?! IE has marketshare, Safari is out there, and the iPhone is a big thing (OMG, now that loads slow!!). New web technology that is built for the FF browser only? Are you trying to bring back the browser wars of the 90's?!? If you can't optimize the javascript, maybe some of the fancy stuff should be optional.
And, please get rid of the &#$% ticker at the bottom! It's annoying! Even if it's hidden, I know it's there eating at my processor. Thanks for your time, that's my 2 cents!!
