The Blair Witch Project is an account of three filmmakers who hiked into Maryland's Black Hills Forest to document a local legend, the Blair Witch. Although the filmmakers were never heard from again, their footage was discovered one year after their disappearance. Shot exclusively on 16mm and video, The Blair Witch Project created quite a buzz at 1999's Sundance Film Festival, and has a strong reputation as a horror film. Whoever planned the marketing of the film did an ingenious job because several internet sites list the actors as "missing" or "presumed dead." Part of the confusion may stem from the fact that actors Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams and Joshua Leonard all use their real names in the film. Blair Witch was co-written and co-directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez.
