Boesman & Lena stars Danny Glover and Angela Bassett as a black couple struggling for an existence during the Apartheid era South Africa. Oppressed by the white people, Boesman and Lena are forced to roam the dusty South African Cape Flats in search of shelter and a better life. The story examines the interpersonal dynamics between the angry Boesman, the reflective Lena, and an old tribesman they meet.
Boesman & Lena is adapted from the play by South African writer Athol Fugard. Director John Berry died during post-production for the movie.
