The weekend box office title remained up for grabs as earning estimates for Date Night [DATEN] and Clash of the Titans [CLASH] are within a hair of each other. The Steve Carell [SCARE] and Tina Fey [TFEY] comedy debuted with an estimated $27.1 million, just ahead of the $26.9 million reported by the fantasy remake for its second weekend. Studios have a tendency to inflate weekend estimates, so the crown won't be settled until the actual numbers come in Monday afternoon.
Clash of the Titans tumbled 56% from its opening weekend, bringing its 10 day total to $110.5 million. Moviegoers have been critical of the sub-par 3D conversion.
On the other hand, the 3D animated How to Train Your Dragon [HTRYD] declined just 13% in its third weekend. The animated fantasy finished third with $25.4 million.
Why Did I Get Married Too [WDIG2] fell 62% to $11 million, while fellow sophomore pic The Last Song [LSONG] lost just 37% to $10 million.
The weekend's other newcomer, Letters to God [LTGOD] mailed in $1.1 million for 10th place.
