Blasting off the summer movie season with an estimated $185.0 million, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness [DRST2] conquered the weekend box office with the 11th biggest opening of all times. The debut more than doubled the first Doctor Strange’s $85.1 million opening in 2016. Audience graded the sequel B+ on CinemaScore, which is below average among MCU titles.
After two weeks at the top, The Bad Guys [TBADG] finished second at $9.77 million for a total of $57.6 million.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [SONC2.BW] ranked third at $7.1 million in its fifth weekend for a sum of $170.8 million.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore [FBST3] grossed another $3.95 million bringing its total to $86.0 million after 4 weekends.
Everything Everywhere All At Once rounded out the top five with $3.32 million and $41.6 million in total.
The Northman [NRTHM] earned $2.77 million to advance its total to $28.0 million after 3 weekends.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent [UWOMT] booked $1.52 million to bring its total to $16.4 million after 3 weekends.
Memory [MMORY] dropped 61% in its second weekend to $1.22 million and $5.5 million overall.
Father Stu [STU] collected $800K to take its 4-weekend accumulation to $19.2 million.
