I think the point is that absolute eyeballs matter more than inflatable dollars.

We always seem to gauge a picture's success by the gross, but if we're not actually in the business, isn't the more meaningful metric the number of people who saw the film? For most of us, we want to know how a movie is being received by other people: who's going to want to talk about it, make reference to it, pull its memes, and decide that it is or isn't art. For that, knowing how many people saw it (and better still if you know something about who those people are) tells you a lot more than how much they collectively paid. Ticket prices change, some theatres are more expensive than others - but everyone has two eyeballs and one butt to put in a seat and always will.
not trying to detract from the movie or JCAME, but how much of the incredible run AVATR has had is from higher 3D and IMAX ticket prices? ndmaster Jan 10, 18:53
