they are making more margin (this weekend), not more gross revenue. BW is making the same dollars it would have with a traditional release

they are just pushing the dollars around. Still looks like its less money than if got a release pre-pandemic

ERC: Disney actually divulged they earned 60 million from Black Widow on Disney+ this weekend WW notfabio Jul 11, 08:20

BW tanked on Saturday only 80 million domestic weekend projected now {nm} notfabio Jul 11, 08:22

More importantly (since this is a game about theatrical box office), it only ended up with $80 million for the weekend. TheWeekendWarrior Jul 11, 08:24

Make no mistake: This is a very bad precedent for the MCU* (*that C is for cinematic, but maybe it should be an S) TheWeekendWarrior Jul 11, 08:27

Theaters don't need to sue, they can just choose not to book Disney films. {nm} Antibody Jul 11, 08:44

Sure, that too... we'll see what happens. {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Jul 11, 09:43

But not playing films won't hurt Disney if they've already decided and seen how money they can make via Disney+ TheWeekendWarrior Jul 11, 10:06

If BW does $400m total (Global), in the before times, its home ent would be around $160m with around $100m coming from tvod/est. {nm} Moviesnob Jul 11, 11:05

Like BOSS2, it tanked on Sat and Sun because that's when the families that streamed at home would have come to theaters. {nm} Antibody Jul 11, 08:38

I am thinking Shang Chi exclusively theatrical status may be endangered {nm} notfabio Jul 11, 08:41

Yup... and actually, Black Widow would probably have gotten better reviews... TheWeekendWarrior Jul 11, 08:44

Thats the global number, so they are just shifting dollars around the new windows Moviesnob Jul 11, 08:57

so they can actually reveal VOD numbers when they're good . . . {nm} cake boss! Jul 11, 09:21

we weren't ready to go back to the theater (yet), so we watched it on our surround system with 65-inch screen and... tealfan Jul 11, 11:13

But would you have been ready if the movie wasn't readily available on your 65 inch TV? {nm} TheWeekendWarrior Jul 11, 11:37

we would have had to wait for it on Blu-ray {nm} tealfan Jul 11, 17:34

Or you don't OWN a 65" TV in the first place. {nm} DTravel Jul 11, 19:40

1+ Pretty much the same for us slightly larger screen. We had a near perfect movie experience albrown Jul 11, 12:19

it defies logic that anybody just believes what they say. It's the same level of transparency as Net Trick; Zero. goodvibe61 Jul 11, 14:27

This is fantastic! Loved watching at home on my 65 inch, with great sound, comfortable recliners and whatever refreshments we wanted. Opener Fund Jul 11, 19:57

agreed. $40 for a family of 4 versus $100 if we all went to the theatre. No contest. Plus we can watch again whenever we want {nm} Anniebecca Jul 12, 11:14
