HSX Announces the End of the Commission-Free Period

Posted by: The HSX Team (a.k.a The_HSX_Team) on Sep 22, 11:45

HSX will no longer offer commission-free trading over the weekend

The incentive was originally created in the late 90's to encourage trading on the weekends, a historically slower period of trading activity when people were at home and dealing with the inconvenience of dial-up. Obviously, those days are long past.

A study performed by HSX Staff showed conclusive evidence of a number of anomalies that were discovered during the commission-free period.  In short, we concluded that HSX Traders were responding enthusiastically to the incentive, but also, in effect warping market activity.

We believe that by removing commission-free trading we will reduce gaming of the Exchange and encourage a more natural market. And while we cherish those devoted souls who were willing to spend their weekends re-shorting their portfolios, We hope that our Traders will instead concentrate their efforts on making judgments on the price of securities.

Based on your suggestions, we will in the near future introduce "free trades" as a reward for one of our "Earn H$" promotions.  The details are still in development, but we expect that Traders of all flavors will have an opportunity to earn a number of commission-free trades.

The least you could do is give us one last free weekend to set up our ports, even if it's just Sunday morning or something shorter. grory Sep 22, 12:17

I have no problem we can all cheat or play fair that is on our own morals; however there should have been some warning on the calander! {nm} damenchipguy Sep 22, 18:01

I made my plays on Sat. and it will hurt my port on shorts I picked up, had I known I may have played differant {nm} damenchipguy Sep 22, 18:03

I will have to play with a higher droi instead of weekly(some trades), thats okay but a heads up would have been the right thing to do {nm} damenchipguy Sep 22, 18:05

'bout time. {nm} remrej Sep 22, 12:42

Well this blows! Have you guys ever heard of the saying "Locks are for honest people"? The Cheaters WILL find a new way to cheat! HuskyMiller Sep 22, 13:33

Good post and you are correct. People still cheated during the year long (I think) period we were without commission free a few years ago. grory Sep 22, 13:44

Well said. The are lots of options that can be done before spilling the blood of commision free days . Plus this will have consequences. Guillo Sep 22, 17:58

well said. build a better mouse trap and they will build a better mouse. {nm} eyescovered Sep 22, 13:55

I think we can live without free trades. Stupid Flanders Sep 22, 14:00

Way back when I first started playing this game, I had multiple ports and TPTB caught me trying to game the system. Hooray360 Sep 22, 14:10

So a few greedy billionaires complain about nor profiting from multiple stock flips and the solution is to punish 1000s of small ports? LonePirate Sep 22, 16:48

The end of commission free along with the launch of CX Derivatives in the planning for weeks. {nm} Antibody Sep 22, 18:07

So what kept HSX from letting us know BEFORE hand? CX derivitaves news release was piss poor, plain and simple. remrej Sep 22, 18:21

LOL......completely agree. {nm} Broiler Sep 22, 19:37

Commish Free Still For Bonds? Broiler Sep 22, 19:37

Because TPTB did not decide to launch until this week. {nm} Antibody Sep 22, 19:40

Then shame on them. Weeks of adv. planning mean nothing if those affected by the change are given 0 time to react {nm} remrej Sep 23, 08:57

They have been looking at this for some time. Wasn't because H-Mogul brought it up. Me, I don't care one way or another. When I had an Catzan Sep 23, 12:25

THIS NEWS TOALLY SUCKS! {nm} icecreamman Sep 22, 20:55

i think it's not fair to punish all traders because of one or two dishonest people. how sad. i will certainly be trading less. {nm} extepan Sep 24, 04:33
