In the interview...

...he said that the main thing he wanted people to do at the end of Django Unchained was to cheer Django's successes, or to root for Django, and that if they didn't do that, or if it was a qualified cheering because of something else in the movie that may have traumatized them or whatever, then he had failed to make the proper movie. There were too many distractions for me to actually do that, and at the end of the movie, I could honestly care less about him.

With regards to "movie violence" itself, his comment was that it's all fake and that you should take it as all fake and not let it bother you. That's not where I was coming from and what I was talking about in my original post. I thought that the violence was taken to absurdly ridiculous levels in the movie, especially when Django started his retribution, and that actually detracted from the story far too much for me to actually become engrossed in it. As far as the interview goes, it still hasn't changed what I thought about the movie and its portrayal of the violence in it. I still maintain that the violence detracted far more from the story than it actually added to it.
