While theres plenty of characters and storylines in for instance the Marvel universe not all will translate to the big screen. Plus these  super hero movies lend themselves to the spectactular which is costly. 

Fantastic Four was the flagship title in Marvel. Even today if you look at prices for vintage comics in the various titles the Fantastic Four are among the most expensive. They have yet to translate to the silver screen in part because in my belief, the characters powers are very difficult to portray.

there is literally an infinite supply of original spec scripts if any studio so chose to develop them. {nm} slipping jimmy Apr 27, 11:30
