So: About the Mulan /Disney + thing: Can you ever imagine paying 30 dollars to watch a movie on your TV? I won't.

30 dollars is a price point in which I need some real entertainment value. It's like going out for a pretty decent lunch or meal. I can go to an IMAX Matinee and still get a drink for that price. I can do all kinds of things, going out and doing something memorable, for 30 dollars.

Sitting on my couch to watch a movie on TV? No.

I can watch thousands of movies at home for a buck or less. THOUSANDS of them. And I'm going to get the same mediocre movie watching experience as I would for the movie costing 30 dollars.

And there will be a day when this 30 dollar movie will be a one dollar movie. So why am I paying 30 dollars to sit on the couch for it?

It's simply not happening here.

Now I'm sure it will be happening all over the place; they wouldn't be doing it otherwise.

So: Who is paying 30 dollars to watch Mulan at home?

And lets' use a couple other genres to level the playing field, because perhaps Mulan is not your personal cup of tea and you'd avoid it like the plague anyway, which is not the point of this but ok lol.

So: Would you pay 30 dollars for

Tenet?

Wonder Woman 1984?

No Time to Die?

Soul?

30 bucks. Would you pay?

I had intended to see all of these but WW1984 in a theater. I do not see myself paying 30 to see any of them at home however. {nm} goodvibe61 Aug 09, 10:25

So here is the thinking... StarBondFund Aug 09, 10:43

the average VOD transaction is watched by 1.8 people so the $30 is $16.67 a person on average {nm} Moviesnob Aug 09, 11:04

What percentage of viewers realistically split the cost? How often does one person absorb the total cost? {nm} goodvibe61 Aug 09, 11:08

those dynamics won't change how much the average VOD transaction is viewed by. The situation here is a little different since its not really Moviesnob Aug 09, 11:27

So they immediately alienate a customer like me with no kids and a wife who has zero interest in seeing it? sberg23 Aug 09, 20:08

Who paid 20 dollars to see King of Staten Island? We did not. And we were looking forward to seeing it. But not 20 dollars worth. goodvibe61 Aug 09, 11:11

i paid $20 to rent Never Rarely Sometimes Always on my laptop, which is how i stream everything else. if it's the only way to watch a thing? pickle rick! Aug 09, 12:03

Thanks (it's one I worked on) {nm} RufusS Aug 09, 12:36

"enjoyed" is probably not the right word but i appreciated the way it engaged with the subject matter {nm} pickle rick! Aug 09, 12:51

Endured? {nm} RufusS Aug 09, 13:37

somewhere in the middle of the two pickle rick! Aug 09, 15:09

As a home theater enthusiast the laptop part kills me a little. I'd definitely do $30 for the right movies, preferably on a projector {nm} OdysseusG Aug 09, 13:21

I’d do it for Tenent and maybe Wonder Woman. I already pay for Disney+ so I won’t be renting this... {nm} Steved1998 Aug 09, 13:51

The only people that CAN rent it are Disney Plus members, correct? So you're paying in addition to the montly fee if/when you watch. {nm} goodvibe61 Aug 09, 14:48

Yes that’s right. I hear you ‘own’ the movie for the lifetime of your subscription, which makes me question if it will hit the regular tier {nm} Steved1998 Aug 10, 20:06

They are betting on purchases by the families with kids who re-watch the latest movie until the parents go nuts! "Let It Go" {nm} monkeybeat Aug 09, 14:12

except Mulan ain't that kinda movie afaict {nm} pickle rick! Aug 09, 15:11

You're not thinking about families. I pay $50+ to take my family to the theater. This is a good deal for me. {nm} TheDowIsUp Aug 09, 18:29

Yes, I definitely see that would be it. When my two step sons were kids, I can see how this could be a good thing for our family. {nm} goodvibe61 Aug 09, 21:15
